DOE Transformer Rule Change Eases Supply Chain Gridlock, Enhances Electricity Reliability

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Energy revised its rule on electricity distribution transformers this week, which will ease supply chain challenges and ultimately support electricity reliability and grid resilience. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) pushed for the change after speaking with Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives president and CEO, Pat O’Loughlin. Brown stated this week the DOE rule change will protect domestic production of transformers and preserve Ohio jobs. The Department of Energy had proposed a rule that would have required all electrical distribution transformers to shift from the industry standard grain oriented electrical steel (GOES) cores to amorphous cores. Pioneer Rate Adjustment to Take Effect January 1

The Pioneer Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees, based on recommendation from management, has approved a 2.3% distribution rate increase for residential members, which will begin effective January 1, 2024. Electric Reliability

Current U.S. energy policy threatens electric reliability Throughout the past two months, cooperative leaders and board trustees throughout Ohio engaged our elected leaders at the Ohio Statehouse and in Washington, D.C., to discuss our concerns over power reliability and the impact it will have on our communities. I know you rely on the power we provide, 24/7, 365 days a year — our lives, and livelihoods, depend on it. For the first time since neighbors came together to form Pioneer Electric Cooperative in 1935, the reliability of power is at risk. Buckeye Power, our generation and transmission provider, generates enough...
