Position Title:
Staff Accountant
Position Summary:
Responsible for preparing and/or backing up all payroll processes including time entry, personnel setup, payroll checks and transfers. This position maintains all payroll records such as earnings, deductions, compensated absences, tax withholding forms, etc. Administers bonus checks, savings programs, payroll records and other taxable employee benefits. Reviews and investigates any inconsistencies with Cooperative’s policies and the union contract. Assist in preparing certain payroll related reports, tax returns and month end closings.
Responsible for preparing or backing up accounts payable functions. Checks accuracy and ensures approval of vouchers for payment. Prepares accounts payable checks and/or ACHs. Prepares analysis of accounts.
Posts credit card purchases and prepares credit card reconciliations.
Assist with sales, capital, and payroll portion of the annual budget and related reports.
Performs general ledger accounting functions including keying journal entries and preparing certain bank reconciliations. Confirm balances tie with the general ledger.
Handles direct pay process and Remit Plus for accounts receivable.
Provides backup to capital credit allocation and retirement process and coordinates related documentation.
Provides back up to Member Service Reps, as needed to respond to member inquiries regarding billing, metering, capital credits, payments, power outages, and blinking lights as well as issuing and closing service orders.
Assist in cost-of-service studies and pulling demand data and NISC MDM data to help with rate design.
Prepares year end entries and reports. Interfaces with auditors as needed.
Qualifications Required:
Education:
Position requires a four-year degree in accounting. Experience working with various software applications required.
Experience/Skills:
Individual must understand the accounting principles. Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills and have strong abilities in organization. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must be able to process and maintain accounting and payroll records. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks following different techniques and procedures. Must be detailed and accuracy oriented. Must be able to perform all duties and requirements associated with the position. Must be able to adapt to a work environment which requires the knowledge to learn and implement new technology. Must be able to attend conferences, seminars and meetings as deemed necessary and/or required to improve performance.
Physical Requirements:
Individual must have sufficient physical health to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Must be able to speak clearly and fluently over the telephone and in person. Must work well individually and with others.
Essential Position Requirements:
Employee must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license.The employee must operate a motor vehicle on public roads for a minimal portion of working hours.May require some lifting of 10 lbs. on occasion. Involves mostly sitting but could involve long periods of standing or walking. Requires frequent work primarily with the fingers and hands. Must have clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and be able to perceive sounds by ear. The position requires stooping, crouching, reaching, and handling.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
