The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) released its summer assessment of electric reliability and Ohio is at low-risk for demand exceeding supply. That’s a change from NERC’s winter assessment of Ohio, which is within the 13-state PJM grid. The Midwest was at risk of losing power this past winter, but thankfully the weather stayed mild and outages were avoided. Pioneer’s 88th Annual Meeting of Members was held on March 23, 2024, at Graham Elementary School in St. Paris. The meeting was led by Pioneer’s Board Chair Terry Householder, who presented an overview of the cooperative’s accomplishments in 2023. Householder spoke about Pioneer’s commitment to reliability by regularly inspecting and maintaining equipment. He went on to share that the co-op changed out 2,359 electric meters across Pioneer’s system — to nearly complete a five-year meter upgrade project — upgraded more than nine miles of electric line and replaced 754 distribution poles throughout the service territory. Pioneer Electric awarded 10 scholarships to children of members. Eight of those area high school seniors have been selected to receive Pioneer Electric Cooperative’s 2024 Children of Members scholarships, awarded to students who plan to attend a traditional college or university. Thirty-eight students throughout Pioneer’s service territory applied for the scholarships and 25 students were interviewed, by judges from outside the cooperative, to narrow the applicants to 10.
