Staking Technician I
Responsibilities
- Conveys the Cooperative’s mission and beliefs to members and co-workers through interactions and approach to responsibilities. Must demonstrate familiarity with and adhere to the Cooperative’s safety rules and practices, including cybersecurity initiatives.
- Designs and stakes distribution facilities required to provide service for new consumers, upgrading and modification of existing services and retirement of existing facilities. Meets with consumers to facilitate design and staking of necessary facilities.
- Responsible for the local application of the Cooperative’s line extension policies, explanation of right-of-ways, easements, etc. Must stay abreast of the NESC/NEC (National Electrical Safety Code/National Electrical Code).
- Acquires right-of-ways and easements.
- Works with ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) and county engineers concerning bridge and roadway improvements. Attends pre-construction meetings, meets on-site for preliminary design and reroutes or recommends deenergizing lines as required.
- Completes electronic staking and material sheets for services. Coordinates completed work orders.
- Provides assistance and advice to Cooperative members experiencing operating and/or voltage problems, etc., and recommends efficient and cost effective means of solving such problems.
- Maintains a positive public image and maintains satisfactory public relations by responding to consumer inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Applies good judgment and tact in gaining permission to work on private property. Meets with Engineering and Operations personnel to discuss member’s needs and the status of jobs.
- Responsible for reconciling CPRs (Continuing Property Records) from completed work orders to submit to accounting on a monthly basis. Recommends changes for inventory requirements.
- Provides back-up for Staking Technician II and Engineering and Operations personnel as necessary.
- Must be available for, actively participate and promptly respond to, according to established standards, unscheduled overtime work associated with electric outages and storm service restoration as assigned.
- Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as deemed necessary or required for the benefit of the Cooperative.
Qualifications Required
Associate of Applied Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Experience working with various software applications required.
Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have strong organizational abilities. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must have a thorough knowledge of the Cooperative’s system, policies and practices. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks following different techniques and procedures. Must be detail and accuracy oriented. Must be able to perform all duties and requirements associated with the position. Must be able to adapt to a work environment which requires the knowledge to learn and implement new technology. Must be able to attend conferences, seminars and meetings as deemed necessary or required to improve performance. Must be an Ohio Notary Public.
Individual must have sufficient physical health to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Must be able to travel to attend meetings, seminars, etc., which are related to specific job functions. Must be able to speak clearly and fluently over the telephone and in person. Must work well individually and with others.
Employee must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license. The employee must operate a motor vehicle on public roads for a significant portion of working hours Job may necessitate the occasional lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs. Requires frequent work primarily with the fingers and hands. Involves sitting, walking, standing, pulling, pushing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, crouching and handling. Involves exposure to oil, dirt, water and weather extremes. Must have clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and be able to perceive sounds by ear.
