Time and Effort Commitment
Serving on the Pioneer Board of Trustees requires about 30 days per year. The Board usually meets on the last Tuesday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. Board members take at least two to three trips per year to association meetings, usually one to three days in length. Other conferences are open to board members on a rotating basis as well. In addition, new trustees are expected to complete training for both the Certified Cooperative Director and Board Leadership certifications through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Some of the courses are offered online and others require travel within Ohio or the nation. The average trustee also spends eight hours a month on “homework” such as reviewing information, preparing for meetings, or talking with fellow co-op members. Trustees are paid a per diem to compensate for time spent for meetings, training and travel, plus reimbursement of expenses.
