Member Feature – The Pickleball Plex
When Pioneer Electric members Katy Jacomet and her husband, Mike, sold their mobile sanitation business in 2022, they expected to sell their Loy Road property in Piqua and the building that went with it. But when the sale fell through, they were left with an empty space. That is when Jacomet and her friend Angie Dilts, who both loved playing pickleball, came up with a new idea — transforming the building into an indoor pickleball facility.
After measuring the space, they realized it could fit two full-size courts, and soon, The Pickleball Plex became a reality. In December 2022, the facility began providing a dedicated place to play pickleball year-round. It operates 24/7 with a self-serve model. Players simply book online through the website or app, receive a code for entry, and show up to play. Courts can even be reserved for private events, making it perfect for gatherings like birthdays or holiday parties.
“We love having a unique, small, simple space for people to enjoy,” Jacomet says.
In addition to casual play, Jacomet and Dilts offer lessons and clinics, and even host tournaments, particularly in the winter months when outdoor play is not an option. Their goal is to make pickleball accessible to everyone, regardless of age or athletic ability.
“Pickleball is for everyone,” Jacomet says. “You do not have to be athletic. It is for all ages and all athletic types.”
With players ranging from eight to 80 years old, The Pickleball Plex is achieving that goal. They also provide equipment for those new to the sport, allowing them to try it out before committing to buying their own gear.
For Dilts, the biggest reward has been seeing the friendships that form on the courts and watching people have fun.
“We’ve met so many people from different backgrounds who come to play for all kinds of reasons,” Dilts says. “The most rewarding part is seeing people having fun at ‘The Plex.’”
