Join One of Our Boards!

Your cooperative. Your Voice. Your opportunity.

At Pioneer Electric Cooperative, being a member means more than just receiving a service — you’re part owner. And with that ownership comes something powerful: a voice in how your cooperative is run.

Each year, cooperative members step forward to help shape the future by serving in leadership roles on the Board of Trustees or county boards. They’re filled by people like you and your neighbors, representing the communities they live in.

Beginning each July, county nominating boards in Champaign, Miami, and Shelby counties look for members interested in serving. Whether you want to influence big-picture decisions, represent your neighbors locally, or simply learn more about the cooperative, there’s a place for you.

Board of trustees

The Board of Trustees is responsible for guiding the overall direction of the cooperative. Responsibilities include:

  • Represents fellow members
  • Employs the President/CEO
  • Establishes company policy
  • Provides organizational direction, meeting monthly for full day meetings
  • Participates in training and conference opportunities

The board consists of nine trustees —three from each district. Each year, one trustee per district is elected to a three-year term. Trustees may serve up to seven consecutive terms.

County boards

County boards help ensure local representation and member input. Responsibilities include:

  • Nominate trustees and district board members
  • Act as a voice for members in their respective county district
  • Typically meet three evenings per year

Each county board has 12 members, representing four geographic areas. Each year, four members are elected to three-year terms in each county, with a limit of seven consecutive terms.

Open geographical areas for board trustee candidates

Eligibility for the Board of Trustees position is based on geographic area. Each year, certain areas are open for nomination. To be placed on the ballot, members must live in either the open area or the area of the trustee whose term is up for reelection. Eligibility for the board of trustees or a county board is also based on several additional factors, listed in the code of regulations and on the application.
