Cool Returns, an energy management program that allows you to help reduce energy use when demand for energy is at its highest. This brief, periodic cycling of your central air conditioning system can reduce the demand for electricity during peak times, keeping your future energy rates down.
Members with a central air conditioner or an air-source or ground-source heat pump are eligible to participate in the Cool Returns program. Members can earn a one-time $100 bill credit for participating.
Why should I participate?
Cool Returns is the most recent addition to the energy management programs of Ohio’s electric cooperatives. These programs have helped save members more than $100 million in energy costs through the years. The Cool Returns program is one component that allows you to help control your future energy costs.
How does it work?
After you’ve signed up for the Cool Returns program, Pioneer installs a switch on your central air conditioner, air source heat pump, or ground-source heat pump. The switch cycles your cooling unit compressor for brief periods of time. Cool air continues to circulate through your home. Cycling periods are so brief that current program participants rarely experience a change in comfort.
Am I eligible to participate?
Electric cooperative members with a central air conditioner or a air-source or ground-source heat pump are eligible to participate. Homeowners who have window air conditioners are not eligible. If you have an air-source or ground-source heat pump and a radio control switch on your water heater, you may also be eligible for our HVAC Rate Discount.
